MISSION AND HISTORY

Champs Mentoring Champs (CMC) was launched in 2007, offering a free mentor-ship program and a homework club to ten students living in the Scarborough Rouge River region and surrounding areas whose ages ranged from 8 – 18 years of age.

In August 2009, CMC was incorporated with six like-minded individuals forming the Board of Directors. The directors of CMC are joined in a common purpose, reflected in our mission statement, and provide leadership, vision, and support and we benefit greatly from what they have to offer. Each of our community board members brings unique experience to CMC who are thrilled by the opportunity to design, develop and implement a new and innovative mentor-ship program. CMC’s founders and volunteer board members took on the task of bringing this vision to life. Since then CMC has continued to offer free mentor-ship programs to children/youth in Scarborough, who range in age from 4-30 years of age. CMC adult volunteers are trained in the field of education, law, business management, Information Systems Processing and social services.

CMC was established to foster in young people a sense of pride that will enable them to achieve their educational and employment endeavors. As a non-profit organization, operating primarily through the efforts of volunteers, the main goal of CMC is to connect adult volunteers with children and youth in a community partnership.

At CMC, we believe that these partnerships will also foster an atmosphere where young people will feel accepted, regardless of their background or past life choices, and that this translate into positive life changes for both our mentors and mentees alike.

The CMC Program envisions a community in which every youth experiences nurturing one-to-one relationships and community support, which in turn allows each of them to develop into their full potential capable of making informed, responsible decisions as involved members of our community. We strive to create a compassionate and loving community through our work, our play, and our existence. All of our adventures are steeped in our unique mentoring culture, which employs creative experience to teach self-reliance, empathy, and care-taking as the building blocks of community.
